Behind-the-Wheel (Driver Training) is offered to both teens and adults as well as potential new instructors. Our vehicles are Toyota Echos, equipped with a dual braking system. Teen Behind the Wheel This course is taken after Driver Education and is the vehicle skills portion for obtaining your license. The 6 hour Behind-the-Wheel course consists of learning basic driving skills, vehicle safety techniques, as well as preparation for the Drive Test at the California Department of Motor Vehicles. The Behind-the-Wheel course is 3 lessons, of 2 hours drive time. After each lesson students are given an evaluation and Study Guide, to share with their parents. FREE pick up and drop off (in the Greater Sacramento Area) is included! This course meets all of the guidelines established by the California Department of Motor Vehicles. Upon completion of the Behind-the-Wheel course, students will receive a Certificate of Completion (California Department of Motor Vehicles form OL238). After completing the Behind-the-Wheel course, and holding a valid Learner's Permit for 6 months, the teen student will be eligible to take the Drive Test. To schedule an appointment, please contact us at (916) 443-7483. Adult Behind the Wheel This course is geared specifically for adults to pass their Drive Test. The first lesson with an adult student is usually an evaluation of existing driving skills. Upon completion of the evaluation, a program geared specifically for that adult student will be implemented (including a recommendation of how many additional hours may be necessary). Free pick up and drop off is included. There is no certificate required by the California Department of Motor Vehicles, however certificates of completion (issued by A1 Driving School) may be issued to insurance companies for proof of completion. Instructor Behind-the-Wheel The Department of Motor Vehicle has specified that the requirements to become a licensed instructor an individual must complete a 40 hour classroom course and a 20 hour Behind-the-Wheel course. This course consists of understanding the laws of the California Vehicle Code, as well as improving driving skills, vehicle safety techniques and simple mechanics of an automobile.
